Stolen Vehicle Crash With Infant Inside

Stolen Vehicle Crash With Infant InsideEugene police reported a stolen vehicle crash with an infant inside. The baby who was trapped inside the stolen vehicle survived the crash without any serious injuries. Eugene police said the owner of the vehicle reported it stolen in the 500 Block of Langers Lane with her 1-year-old child in a car seat in the back of the car. A woman took off in the car and crashed nearly 20 minutes later near Spencer Creek Road and Fawn Hills Driver. Witnesses say the car crashed through a fence and ended up in a pasture. The woman who stole and crashed the car, fled the scene leaving the baby inside. Though the baby did not appear injured, as a precaution, the child was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. The female suspect was last seen walking east on Royal Avenue. She is described as a late teen or early 20s white female with brown hair and a thin build. She was last seen wearing a red short sleeve or tank top shirt, black capri yoga type pants, and black shoes. Police said she was said to be bleeding from her head with possible cuts or scratches on her face. If you have any information pertaining to the incident, police are asking you to contact the Eugene Police Detective Cliff Sites.

What Happens if My Stolen Vehicle is Involved in a Car Crash?

If your vehicle was stolen and the person who stole it is involved in a car crash, you are not legally liable. However, you will have to prove that the vehicle was stolen and that you did not give the at-fault driver permission to drive your vehicle. Since you were not at-fault, the criminal/driver should be held responsible. However, the other party may decide to sue you personally to repair the vehicle.
