Major Multiple Vehicle Semi-Truck Accident Shuts Down I-5
A major multiple vehicle semi-truck accident shut down I-5 near Cottage Grove. The initial crash occurred when a semi-truck hit another semi and then hit a barbed-wire barrier causing it to flip. Vehicles behind the semi-truck then began to slam on their brakes, spinning out and colliding with each other. Reports say a total of five vehicles, two being semis, were involved in the crash. This major collision blocked both lanes of northbound I-5 and slowed southbound lanes to a crawl. Almost an hour passed before rescue crews were able to get the semi-truck driver out of the flipped semi. He was then airlifted to a nearby local hospital for evaluation of injuries.
Who is at Fault for a Multiple Vehicle Semi-Truck Accident?
When multiple vehicles are involved in a car accident or semi-truck accident, it can sometimes be difficult to determine who was at fault. Usually, an investigation will need to take place in order to reconstruct events which occurred before the collision. Those who may conduct an investigation of an auto accident include the police, insurance companies, and personal injury attorneys.
During an investigation, an analysis of all factors that lead up to the accident will be taken into account. Where the drivers operating their vehicles correctly? Was anyone speeding, following too closely, or ran a red light? A driver can be found responsible for an accident if they were driving their car in any wreck less manor.
Next, an investigator will look to determine if any drivers were distracted. Was a driver texting, talking, or using a cell phone in any other manor that would have kept them from paying attention to the road? Investigators will also determine if any drivers were under the influence of any drugs.
Other things an investigator will look for is any mechanical failures. Did the semi-truck driver fall asleep as a result of working long hours? Was weather or road conditions a factor that could have caused the accident? Was there a cause for a sudden emergency?
Determining fault for a multiple vehicle accident is important so a party will be held accountable for damages.
